Visit our botanical garden

The Lourizán Botanical Garden, located in the province of Pontevedra, is a place of great botanical and historical significance. This garden is part of the Lourizán Forest Research Center, which has been a pioneer in the development and application of numerous forest products and technologies.

During the tour of the Lourizán Botanical Garden, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a unique experience that combines natural beauty with the historical richness of the site.

The Garden and the Lourizán Manor House were once owned by D. Eugenio Montero Ríos, an influential Spanish politician. Montero Ríos transformed the estate by planting fruit trees, vines, and forest species. He also adorned the paths with numerous ornamental species, many of which still thrive today.

The Lourizán Manor House, renovated in 1909 by D. Jenaro de la Fuente Domínguez, features a modernist style and grand galleries. This renovation aimed to turn the estate into a manor house, imitating and surpassing the size of residential palaces in the style of the Second French Empire.

The Botanical Garden boasts an impressive diversity of trees and shrubs, with over 850 different species. These include both native Galician flora and foreign species. Their presence significantly contributes to the conservation and study of regional, European, and global flora. Each tree and shrub have its own story to tell, and their study and preservation are essential for understanding and protecting our natural environment.
