Resumo

This collaborative project focused on the study of the called ‘fire paradox’. Forest fire is on the one hand, a factor of disturbance of forest ecosystems that can have negative consequences for humans and, on the other hand, it is also an essential ecological factor in many forest ecosystems. Moreover forest fire can be and a practical tool for vegetation and fuel accumulation management , and it can also be used as an effective technique in fire suppression. The CIF of Lourizan team addressed several major issues related to the “fire paradox”: the prediction of survival of fire-damaged trees, the prediction of moisture of fuel as a trigger of fires, and the use of backfire in forest fires suppression.
