Resumo
Climate change is causing significant detrimental effects on European forests, with forest fires being one of the major threats. In this scenario, it is essential to increase the resilience of Atlantic and sub-Atlantic forests to the effects of climate change, and the implementation of silvopastoral measures can be one of the alternatives.
LIFE SILFORE is a demonstrator project that addresses the following challenges:
- Reducing combustible biomass through grazing.
- Increasing biological diversity favored by the generation of multiple gradients of light, moisture, fertility, etc., as well as various ecological niches for plants and animals with different requirements. Biodiversity is a key piece to ensure the resilience of wooded areas against impacts such as those generated by climate change.
- Conserving the supply of ecosystem services at a landscape and regional scale.
