Resumo
Climate change, with droughts, wildfires, and windstorms, threatens the key resource of fast-growing tree species in the humid Atlantic zone. Policy makers and foresters are concerned about managing current forests and what should be planted to ensure trees that survive climate change. REINFFORCE2 will provide solutions leveraging the climatic gradient along the Interreg Atlantic zone to anticipate climate change effects on coastal forests, simulating a global warming of 6°C.
The project will capitalize (WP1) on field trials installed with Interreg Atlantic Area in 2012, analyzing macro data collected with new computer and AI tools (WP2), such as drones and sensors that were not available 10 years ago, improving the REINFFORCE1 infrastructure, adding new trials dedicated to forest adaptation to climate change, building new links further south to anticipate very warm climates (WP3 and 4), and validating and promoting solutions on how to adapt forests to ensure resources generated by the forestry sector.
Objectives:
- 2 Blue/Green environment. Programme: RSO2.4 promote adaptation to climate change. Field: 061 risks related to climate change.
- Increase the resilience capacity of the territory to risks of natural, climatic, or anthropic origin, through the strengthening of risk management systems.
